Dimitris Petrou: Θeros spring/summer 2011

Designer Dimitris Petrou chose to present his work individually. His new collection for Spring 2011 is titled "Θeros" and will be presented at Theseum theatre (Athens) on Tuesday 12/4/11.
The new greek designer thought himself of being like Tom Ford, who has a great success worldwide and the last years chose to bring a more exclusive feeling to his fashion shows. I truly respect Tom Ford for his option, as his brand name allows to keep this position, but i can not really understand what Petrou had in mind by excluding designers and journalists, and only allowing 200 guests. So, my only hope is that his collection will have at least 10% of Tom Ford's talent and creativity.

Sotiris Georgiou afw day5

For me this was the worst show during the Athens Fashion Week. Sotiris Georgiou played a complete safe game by copying Yamamoto and Comme des Garcons, unsuccessfully of course! This collection was based on urban feeling, but it lacked of dynamism and strength. It was not intellectual; it was like watching the nerds we were mocking at school on stage. No, i do not want the nerds as the new fashion icons for God's sake! Nerds with big, (fake in this case) black eyewear like Bill Gates are for Universities, not for fashion. Especially for the womenswear, who wants to see a woman dressed so asexually? Only a woman hater would dress a lady like this! My conclusion: a complete fail. I can not see why somebody would appreciate this collection, apart from my grandfather, designer's PR, friends, relatives and bloggers family.

Delight afw day5

When the first model came out i went into a shock because i have seen the two previous collections from Delight and these looks didn't remind me of Delight's prints and geometric patterns at all. I was also confused about the weird mixing of the textiles, basically velvet and cloque, or the mixing of the contrast colors. I am not sure about the success of this trial, especially for the menswear. But there were some highlights for me in this collection, like the lovely furs or the pairing of white socks with platforms or sandals as a fashion statement. I didn't hate it, but i am not so enthusiastic as the fall-winter 2010.

Evangelos Kavathas afw day5

Evangelos Kavathas presented his vision for the phenomenon of Selas in the Mediterranean perception. This show was very chic and of extreme esthetic in all ways, starting from the music by Nickey Xenou and the fashion crowd to the direction of the show by Manos Jojos. The designer presented disparate colors but in a complete harmony. I also loved the jewelry and the hand embroiders. For me the last look was divine (check the picture). Pure chic!

Dimitri Zafiriou afw day5

Dimitri Zafiriou's show under the title "Le Dinner Surrealist" was a reference to the surrealist movement. The designer was inspired by the 20s and the geometry of Art Deco. For me this was the best show from day 5, as it was a very interesting collection with a lot of creative looks and mixing of textiles: satin, velvet, tulle and wool in a total black (or dark blue) and white color palette. I loved the pairing of the transparencies with the other fabrics creating a dramatic atmosphere of the modern "femme fatale". The concept was very steady and Zafiriou was very focused on it. I have to mention also the gorgeous jewelry by Thanos Kyriakides, who also directed the show. Well done!

Makis Tselios presented a very sexy collection based on leopard prints for girls and navy looks for boys. The collection had at least a specific concept: semi-naked and fetish outfits. Aslanis fashion show afw day4

Honey, you can not judge Aslanis. Aslanis is our national heritage, our traditional designer, so there are no comments enough to cover all these 200 looks and all these 100 colors and textiles! Just respect! Aslanis is more or less similar to Acropolis for Greece: all you can do is remain speechless. Enjoy the pictures and i am expecting your points. Mina Stone fashion show afw day4

Μία αξιοπρεπής και ήσυχη παρουσία μέσα σε μία ημέρα απόλυτου μαξιμαλισμού για την εβδομάδα μόδας στην Αθήνα. Η σχεδιάστρια βασίστηκε στην απλότητα του μινιμαλισμού και διατήρησε την αξιοπρέπειά της. Δεν είναι ο τύπος ρούχων που θα ήθελα να βλέπω, καθώς δεν νομίζω ότι επιτεύχθηκε εδώ η υπέρβαση από την ασφάλεια της πεπατημένης σε κάτι δημιουργικότερο.

Empire fashion show afw day4

In my latest review i have posted that Empire reminded me of Zara mostly rather than a designer's work. Sorry, but i have changed my mind: on the one hand Zara is a brand of extreme creativity and fashion spirit. On the other hand Empire is not. This is more like a styling job rather than designing. And let me ask this: how is it possible for Empire to show two weeks before at Athens Exclusive Designers Week as a new designer and now at Athens Fashion Week as a designer with a full collection?

Paris Valtadoros fashion show afw day3

Paris Valtadoros' fashion show was titled "Typhoon" and it was exactly that, judging by all these dynamic colors and patterns he presented to us yesterday. Valtadoros stayed true to himself by paying tribute to his signature two prospectives and substances, which all remind something from the Byzantine architecture and the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. The designer was based mainly on silk and organza as far as the textiles are concerned, a fact that made these evening dresses look very luxurious, most of them basically targeted to be worn during galas and tea parties, despite that all these voluminous outfits are perfect for fashion editorials also and completely wearable in general. The highlights for me where the live dance performance at the beginning of the show, the divine classical music from Beethoven to "Swan Lake" that travelled us all and the extraordinary colors that Valtadoros created for his clothes by combing two different shades and textiles: deep pink, blue royal, lime, ecru, petrol and of course the classic black. I have to mention also that the shoes shown were made by the designer also and were perfectly matched with his atmospheric looks.

Katerina Alexandraki afw day3

Η Κατερίνα Αλεξανδράκη έχει τη δική της φιλοσοφία. Άσχετα εάν σου αρέσουν τα ρούχα της ή όχι, αυτό που πρέπει να εκτιμήσει κανείς είναι η πρόθεσή της να σεβαστεί το περιβάλλον: δεν πετάει κανένα υλικό, όλα τα σχέδια της είναι από ανακυκλωμένα υφάσματα, δεν τυπώνει προσκλήσεις και γενικά διαπνέεται από το οικολογικό πνεύμα που τόσο εκλείπει στην εποχή μας. Επιπλέον, τώρα έχει έναν παραπάνω λόγο να συνεχίσει στο ίδιο κλίμα: η οικονομική κρίση που χτυπά την Ελλάδα δεν αφήνει για εκείνην κανένα περιθώριο για "πολυτέλειες" και ακριβές δημιουργίες. Από αυτήν την άποψη τη σέβομαι. Η επίδειξή της εκτός των άλλων περιελάμβανε και ζωντανή εκτέλεση μουσικών κομματιών από ραπ συγκρότημα, και ένα γλυκύτατο κοριτσάκι να τρέχει με τον ανεμόμυλό της επί σκηνής.

This show had a clear concept and was fully targeted to its main view, the luxury and ultra feminine 30s chic and modern classy. I loved the luxurious textiles and the romantic forms despite the minimalistic undertone (i am not really into minimalism as you may have guessed). Let me mention that the shoes by Nak were also very classy. The highlight for me were the manteaux in creme color which will make a statement during the upcoming winter. For me in one word: classy!

Με αυτήν την επίδειξη πραγματικά πήξαμε στο βελούδο και το φιογκάκι! Αφενός όταν χρησιμοποιείς σε όλην την φόρμα των ρούχων σου ύφασμα βελούδο -αν μη τι άλλο- το μοντέλο σου πρέπει να είναι στα όρια της νευρικής ανορεξίας, διαφορετικά η σιλουέτα που δημιουργείς -όπως και να το χειριστείς- δείχνει ογκώδης, όπως το βελουτέ καφέ σορτσάκι που έδειχνε τα οπίσθια της κυρίας σαν την Πλατεία Ομονοίας. Αφετέρου, τόσο κορδελάκι και φιογκάκι μαζεμένο είχα να δω από την εποχή που μεσουρανούσε η Barbie-πριγκήπισσα και ζήλευα την ξαδέρφη μου που είχε όλη τη σειρά!

Vassilios Kostetsos afw day2

Ο Βασίλειος Κωστέτσος βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στους πρωτοπόρους Έλληνες σχεδιαστές. Αυτό το show όμως, αν και το πρώτο που παρακολούθησα από τον καταξιωμένο σχεδιαστή, σε καμία περίπτωση δεν με ενθουσίασε εξαιτίας των ανάμικτων θεμάτων που είδα. Εκείνο που με ξένισε περισσότερο δεν ήταν ούτε τα μπλουζάκια με λογότυπα Νέας Υόρκης, ούτε ίσως που μερικά από τα μοντέλα που μου φάνηκαν ατυχείς επιλογές, αλλά όταν κατά τη διάρκεια της 30λεπτης αυτής παρουσίασης εμφανίστηκε  μια ελληνίδα Kate Moss καπνίζοντας στο catwalk. Τι ευφυές!
Καλός χρυσός ο Βασίλειος αλλά φαντάζομαι δεν έχει την απαίτηση να πιστέψουμε πως δεν γνώριζε πως παρουσίαζε στους ταπεινούς Έλληνες την ίδια ιδέα που είχε ο Marc Jacobs για το πρόσφατο show της Louis Vuitton. Από την Ελληνική μόδα περιμένουμε πλέον μεγάλα και πολλά πράγματα ας κοιτάξουν οι σχεδιαστές να μην μας απογοητεύσουν άλλο τα επόμενα χρόνια, ας νιώσουμε επιτέλους και εμείς για κάτι ή έστω για κάποιον περήφανοι.
